Applications and Detailed Information

NAHMA offers nationally recognized certifications and credential programs to showcase members' experience and professional skills. Its core certifications are Certified Professional of Occupancy (CPO) and Fair Housing/Section 504 Compliance (FHC). Properties owned and operated under Section 42 tax credits will benefit from the Specialist in Housing Credit Management (SHCM) certification. State Housing Agencies accept this certification as part of their Low Income Housing Tax Credits application requirements.* Certification programs are professionally created and monitored for accuracy and regulatory updates. NAHMA is continually updating its Exam processes, including electronic exam scoring and emailing test results.

In our ever changing industry, NAHMA has created affordable housing credentials to meet its members' needs. To emphasize the quality of our affordable housing properties, we are proud to offer: Communities of Quality® (COQ®) Recognition Program and the Credential for Green Property Management (CGPM). Members' multifamily properties are recognized for their excellence in management, resident services, appearance, and other standards. The COQ designation is offered in two categories: large and small properties (under 50 units). Submissions compete for National Recognition at the NAHMA Annual Conferences. In addition, individual properties and Management Agents/Owners are listed in a national registry.

National Affordable Housing Maintenance Technicians™ (NAHMT™) and National Affordable Housing Maintenance Supervisor™ (NAHMS™) credentials focus on an individual's knowledge and experience to preserve quality of affordable housing. Training includes Fair Housing and REAC training, and other qualified courses. Idaho AHMA conducted its first Maintenance Training Track in March 2008.

The National Affordable Housing Professional (NAHP) is a special designation for management agents and executives desiring to advance their careers and skills in the affordable housing industry. Stringent requirements set the standards to achieve the highest levels of recognition. Three levels are offered to AHMA Members: Professional, Executive, and Emeritus.

NAHMA brings computer-based training to its members through an alliance with Ross Business Development and Grace Hill. The NAHMA Learning Center, available online today and developed by the alliance, will introduce basics for TRACS, Fair Housing (English & Spanish), Leasing (both at your property & on the Internet), Hiring Practices, Resident Retention, Sexual Harassment, Customer Service, and Mold Awareness.

* SHCM offered in conjunction with the National Apartment Association (NAA) and American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA).
